Our schedule:
Our day in review:
We did math and planned our paragraph for our newspaper article this morning. Kids are listing the who, what, when, where, and how of their stories to focus their paragraphs before they write. The next step is to list what happened in order. In the afternoon, we shared our Personal Reflection objects and index cards. Wow! What cool things the kids brought in and the reflections really showed a lot about each of them. We took some time to do an instructional session in soccer and freeze tag; we believe so strongly in structuring free time for friendship building in a way that sets the kids up for success. Then, based on feedback we got from students last year in their opinion essays, we spent 20 minutes organizing ourselves! Thanks, Nolan, Roger, and Mohsen (5th grade) for inspiring us! The kids neatened out their cubbies and lockers. Other weeks we will organize binders and folders, too. Lastly, we did planners. Don't worry if your 3rd grader's planner isn't entirely done as well as the teacher's yet; this is a skill that kids develop over time. Compare their planner to ours and point out what was done well and what could be improved. (Mrs. Davis' class was rushed today at planners and we'll save ten extra minutes for Monday planner time! So sorry!)
For Monday, bring in your facts game if you made one this summer and also bring in an action photo of yourself for your newspaper. We will be laminating these! Feel free to print it on regular paper or email it to us if your printer is out of ink. There is also a smaller square for a photo of your hero; some kids like a photograph, others like to draw. It is up to you!
In closing, WOW!, we love your kids so much and had such a fun first week. We are so excited thinking about the year to come!
Enjoy your weekend,
Kim and Tom
