On the third day of the school year, we focused on working together in teams to make our learning the best it can be.
Third grade math is doing lessons out of Stanford University's Youcubed project. Today we began with watchingthe mindset video, Brains Grow and Change https://www.youcubed.org/wim2-day-1/ then we learned to see numbers through a dot card number talk, which helps students understand that mathematics can always be seen in many different and creative ways. Working together, the class saw 18 different patterns in the dot card!
Fourth grade math students got their new math books and did lesson 1-1, which reviewed place value.
In reading, we read with a partner and our stuffed animals, sharing the books we each brought from home. We also went to the media center and checked out books, with the goal of finding a book we each LOVE, asking Mrs. Truesdell and our teachers if we need help finding one.
In writing, Seley's class finished planning their newspaper paragraphs. Tomorrow, both classes will write their drafts.
This afternoon, we had Eng. Tech. (Davis) or Art (Seley), and then had time for our daily language work, did planners (we taped the swim/gym schedule into our planners on the back cover), and had our first Engage class!
