Monday

Today we listed all the possible ways to eradicate the aphids from our tower garden and weighed the problems with each possible solution. We have decided to try adding praying mantis eggs and enclosing the garden in a net. The praying mantis is a voracious predator of aphids. We are also getting a visual example of exponential growth. There are so many aphids! Our plants are not as full and tall as the Harvath/Mali plants. For some reason, our lights are not cycling on as much as they should. This project is a great lesson in problem solving, variables, and persistence. Thanks to all the research you did at home and for all the suggestions you generated.

We also wrote thesis statements that are clear, concise, and debatable for our The Great Debates-Food Edition opinion writing. We got books from the media center and read. We read more about Michigan in the early 1800s as we approach statehood.

This Friday we are going to the movies and the 3/4 talent show will start at 1:15. Parents are welcome to join us for the talent show.

Next Thursday, 4/26, is Take Your Child To Work Day. Many workplaces welcome kids at this age for this day, and many kids participate. Our students get so much out of going to work with you. If your child participates, we will not assign missing work, but we will ask your child to post that day on Seesaw explaining your job and what your work day is like. As always, please email your child's absence to bcsattendance@birmingham.k12.mi.us
