Terrific Thursday

Third Grade Math: Our first learning target for Unit 3, Measurement is to measure to the nearest quarter inch. If you don't have a ruler at home, print this one by clicking here. If your child wants more practice, click here to download and print a worksheet from Measuring and Showing Data. Tomorrow the kids will do one of these worksheets as a quiz to find out if they have mastered measuring to the nearest quarter of an inch or if they need more practice.

Fourth Grade Math: Tomorrow, we will be taking the Unit 3 test, which focuses on long division and division word problems. Make sure to study the review closely.

Reading: We are continuing our read-aloud of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and using this text to practice applying reading strategies. Today and yesterday, we were studying characters.

Writing: We are collaborating with peers to revise and edit our action stories to get them just right for publishing. Also, we are studying the way illustrations are used in The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane to help us illustrate our action story.

Science: We continue to study forces and motion.

Social Studies: We continue to explore the Northeast Region of the United States and will learn about the United States' population density.

Salmon: Our salmon have undergone some major growth and development! We have prepared observations and will post them soon to Seesaw. If you aren't yet connected to your child's Seesaw page, please email Kim or Tom and we'll get you connected!

Word Study: We meet on Monday afternoons (Tuesday if there is no school on a Monday) for word study groups. At home, please be practicing sorting words almost every day. There are also required practice activities in Spelling City. Make sure to refer to the colored homework paper that your child received on Tuesday. On Monday, groups will meet to sort and practice test with their pattern. Then, in another week, groups will meet again to test and to get their next list and review the pattern. Click here to read more about the Words Their Way program we're using for word study and why sorting the patterns are so crucial for kids,
