Third grade math: Tomorrow, we are testing unit 2. Our next unit will focus on telling time to the minute, using a ruler to measure to the nearest quarter inch and half centimeter, and making and reading bar graphs. Each child will take a pretest that I will use to form learning groups for each of these three skills. Make sure you continue to practice your basic facts every day for 15 minutes. Use www.xtramath.org, http://bcs34.wikis.birmingham.k12.mi.us/Practice+Basic+Facts, and pages from the Student Activity Book and Homework and Remembering Book from units 1-2. There are loads of multiplication and division pages. Try SAB p. 139-144 and SAB p. 149a-150.
Here are the review sheet pages to study. Also, we reviewed two step story problems today.
Fourth grade math: We are completing unit 3 this week and will test on Friday.
Writing: Last week, each student wrote a personal resolution for the New Year and made a specific plan with specific details and steps. Ask your child to show you their resolution and discuss their plan with them. This week, we are examining adjectives, learning about this part of speech, and applying interesting adjectives to add detail to our writing.
Michigan: We are wrapping up our study of Michigan's Native Americans and will be reviewing for a test early next week. In class, each student will make flashcards as a study tool. Students are completing a research project that we have done, using a variety of books and encyclopedia articles to read about how Native Americans used Michigan's natural resources to survive.
Salmon: Make sure to check out your child's Seesaw to see their post from last week to see how our salmon are developing and changing.
Talent Show: Our 7/8 Leadership Team students are organizing a talent show and our 3/4 students are invited to sign up to perform an act for their 3/4 peers. We passed out an informational flyer today. Any questions, please email Senor Liebson, who is the teacher for the 7/8 Leadership Team. His email is JLeibson@birmingham.k12.mi.us
