Week Old Salmon Wednesday

Today we learned a bit more about what we will do in our classroom with salmon this year and looked at where in Michigan our eggs were laid (Manistee Weir), where they are right now (Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery), and where we will release them when they are ready to return to a river and lake system. Then, since we're living democracy as we are in the process of ratifying our class constitution, the class voted on continuing to learn about salmon and the heroic journey that is their life cycle and doing the science lesson on sound energy another day. Ask your child what they learned about salmon. We also asked everyone who's not a vegetarian/vegan to ask their parents if they can eat fish this week. Today's lesson encompassed Michigan geography, economics, ecosystems/food webs, and even a bit of math. This is why we love our salmon interdisciplinary study!

At today's class meeting, we sang a few verses of "Stay on the Sunny Side."

Third graders should show you their facts growth chart we made today on Google Classroom. We'll be adding to it each month. So far, we entered our scores from our first facts tests so we can chart our progress as we learn and grow in fluency.

Here's today's planner:
