Friday

Mrs. Davis was sadly out the past two days, Wednesday with my daughter who was sick with ear infections, and then Thursday because our 12 and a half year old dog died. It was a very hard couple of days, and the kindness the kids have showed me today has been really touching and helpful. We're reading Because of Winn-Dixie as our current read aloud, but I have resolved to not cry during read aloud. Thank you for your understanding.

Some curriculum updates:

Science-we are taking a chapter quiz on Monday. The study guide is posted below in yesterday's post.

Social Studies-we are continuing our virtual visit to the northeast with an extended stay in Washington, D.C. to study our nation's government. We are using a reading packet, focusing also on non-fiction reading strategies. The kids also are viewing some videos on our government.

3rd Grade Math-we are pre-testing Unit 4 on Monday and taking our post-test on Unit 3 on Tuesday. There are two study guides to use at home for practice.

Reading-we are doing a whole-class read of Because of Winn-Dixie and extending the realistic fiction strategies to our self-selected books at our independent reading levels with our reading buddies.

Writing-we are finishing our fairy tales unit by publishing fractured fairy tales in which the kids write a fairy tale blending a character and a setting while using themes of the genre. We can't wait to share the stories after they have been drafted, revised, and edited!

Finally, we ended our day today with our Read to Waikiki celebration! Thanks to all our parents who made this party possible!
